New internal pictures of the smartphone's casing show the phone could shine a light to let you know a message has arrived - or even to warn you it's going to rain
The new iPhone 6 could have a light-up logo, according to leaked photos of the new smartphone's casing.
It's thought the new illuminated Apple could be used to let users know when they've got a new message, update from social media - or even to let them know it's going to rain.
The pictures, released by website USwitch Tech, show a recess around the logo on the back of the phone, with what appears to be a hole covered in plastic thin enough to let light shine through.
Apple is set to overhaul the iPhone's notification system in the forthcoming iOS 8 update, due for release in the Autumn.
The new software will allow users to quickly reply to messages without having to leave the app they're in, and will bring more features to the Notification Centre window - but there's been no official word on a light-up logo.
One big change is allowing third party apps to have more access to the notification system. If Apple extends this to the logo, it could be set to light up for anything from a change in stock price to a warning that it's going to rain.
The iconic Apple logo on company's MacBook laptop range has long been illuminated when the computer is in use, but the light hasn't been used to deliver alerts or notifications.
An illuminated logo has been a rumoured feature in almost every update of the iPhone since it launched in 2007, but it has never materialised. It was even rumoured that early models would use the logo as a flash for the phone's camera.
Insiders expect the iPhone 6 to be announced in late September, after manufacturers embark on an unprecedented production run this month.
It'll come in two sizes, with a 5.5 inch screen and a 4.7 inch screen, though it's thought the models will have staggered releases to avoid competition between the two models.
